Introduction:
Neck pain, also known as neck pain, is a very common condition in our modern society. Whether it's due to long hours in front of the computer, incorrect postures, stress, or injuries, neck pain can affect our quality of life and limit our ability to carry out daily activities.
Causes of neck pain:
Cervicalgia can be caused by various factors, ranging from traumatic injuries to chronic stress. Some of the most common causes include:
a) Poor posture: Spending long hours sitting in front of the computer, constantly looking at the mobile phone, or sleeping in an incorrect position can exert pressure on the muscles and joints of the neck, leading to tension and pain.
b) Injuries and accidents: Whiplash, sports injuries, or any type of sudden impact can damage the tissues of the neck, causing pain and stiffness.
c) Effects of stress: Emotional and mental stress can manifest physically as muscle tension in the neck and shoulder muscles, increasing the likelihood of developing cervicalgia.
Symptoms of neck pain:
The symptoms of neck pain can vary in intensity and duration, but some of the most common ones include:
a) Neck pain and stiffness: The pain can be constant or intermittent and may radiate to the shoulder and arm muscles.
b) Restricted movement: Stiffness and muscle tension can make it difficult to move the neck normally, affecting the ability to turn or tilt the head.
c) Headaches/migraines: Neck pain can also trigger headaches, especially at the base of the skull. In some cases, the referred pain from the affected muscles can reach the eyes.
Physiotherapeutic treatments for neck pain:
a) Manual therapy: Massage and manipulation techniques are used to release tension in the muscles and joints of the neck, improving mobility and reducing pain.
b) INDIBA therapy is a treatment modality that uses radiofrequency currents to generate heat in deep tissues. This heat stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation, promoting healing, reducing inflammation, and relieving pain. In the case of neck pain, INDIBA can be used to treat the affected area and accelerate recovery.
c) Dry needling: The spasm caused by the insertion of the needle into the muscle helps release tension and promote muscle relaxation, alleviating pain and improving function. Recommended for radiating pain/migraines.
d) Therapeutic exercises and stretches: Specific exercises can be prescribed to strengthen the neck muscles and improve stability, as well as stretches to increase flexibility.
e) Postural education: Physiotherapists can provide guidelines on maintaining proper posture during daily activities, helping to prevent future relapses.
Conclusion:
Neck pain is a common condition that can negatively impact our quality of life. However, with the appropriate physiotherapy treatment, it is possible to alleviate neck pain, regain mobility, and prevent future discomfort. Remember the importance of maintaining correct posture, performing strengthening exercises, and seeking professional help.
